Hello, I’m Shuna
I’m a consultant trichologist: I specialise in hair loss and scalp conditions, and I’ve worked in trichology since 1999. My practice is in Forest Row, East Sussex, and I see patients from across Sussex, Kent and Surrey.
I know first-hand how distressing hair and scalp problems can be, and how much they can affect your confidence. My first job is to listen. Then I look closely at your hair and scalp, work out what’s really causing the problem, and give you a clear plan you can follow.
I see women, men, teenagers and children, and I also work as an expert witness and give talks and training on hair and scalp health.

My journey into trichology
Over 25 years in hair and scalp care, from a London clinic laboratory to my own practice in Sussex.
1
Royal Navy
Before trichology, I served in the Royal Navy.
2
1999: the Philip Kingsley clinic, London
I joined the world-renowned Philip Kingsley clinic in Mayfair, starting in the product laboratory making the specialist creams and shampoos used in treatment.
3
Clinical training
I moved on to work as a clinical assistant, giving treatments, and trained formally with the Institute of Trichologists. I became a Member of the Institute (MIT) in 2009.
4
Consulting trichologist
After qualifying, I consulted at the clinic under the mentorship of Philip Kingsley himself and my father, Glenn Lyons, the clinic’s Clinical Director and a past Chairman of the Institute of Trichologists.
5
2011: my own practice in Sussex
I opened my own clinic in Sussex to bring that London experience closer to home, with a more personal, whole-person approach.
6
Today: Forest Row
I now see patients at The Anderida Practice in Forest Row, East Sussex, and by video across the UK, under the name Shuna Hammocks Trichology.
How I work
Trichology looks at the whole person. Your hair is often a barometer of your general health, so I consider your medical history, lifestyle, diet, stress, family history and emotional wellbeing, not just the hair itself.
Empathy
I understand how upsetting hair loss can be. Much of the worry comes from not knowing what’s happening, and my experience helps take that fear away.
Respect
You deserve to be truly heard. I take time to listen to your story, your concerns and what matters to you.
Individual care
No two people are alike, so I don’t believe in standard treatments. One cap doesn’t fit all: your advice and treatment are made for you.
Qualifications and memberships
Anyone can call themselves a trichologist, so it’s worth checking who you’re seeing. These are the professional bodies I belong to and the standards I work to.
- Member of the Institute of Trichologists (MIT), registration no. 10060. The Institute’s register is accredited by the Professional Standards Authority. Check my registration
- Member of the Royal Society of Medicine (MRSM)
- Member of The Academy of Experts, no. 4101, for expert witness work
- Member of the Society of Cosmetic Scientists
- Member of the Royal Society for Public Health
- Member of the Medical Defence Union, and fully insured for trichological and expert witness work
- Current DBS check, so I can see children and teenagers, with a parent or guardian present
- Continuing professional development, including medical seminars and events with the European Hair Research Society
Teaching, writing and press
I’m passionate about raising awareness of trichology. Too many people live with hair loss or a painful scalp without knowing a specialist can help.
Teaching and training
I’ve run trichology sessions at the Philip Kingsley clinic and taught hairdressing students at Crawley College, and I give talks and training for organisations that want to understand hair and scalp health.
Writing
I wrote Hair Loss: A Sufferer’s Guide, a plain-English ebook on hair loss and scalp conditions, and every advice article on this site is written or reviewed by me.
In the press and on air
I’ve been featured in Your Expert Witness magazine and Streetwise magazine in East Grinstead, and interviewed about trichology on local radio, including Uckfield FM and Meridian FM.
Recognition
The practice won the WhatClinic Patient Service Award in 2024.
