Talks and training on hair and scalp health
Over more than 25 years I’ve been invited to teach a range of groups about the hair and scalp, from trichology sessions at the Philip Kingsley clinic in London, where I trained, to hairdressing students at Crawley College.
I don’t run fixed courses. Each session is arranged with the organisation that invites me, so the topics, depth and format suit the people in the room, whether they’re clinic staff, students, hairdressers or a professional group.
At a glance
- Consultant trichologist since 1999, registered with the Institute of Trichologists (no. 10060)
- Trichology sessions at the Philip Kingsley clinic in London
- Teaching hairdressing students at Crawley College
- Talks and training arranged with each organisation, planned around your group
What a session can cover
We choose the topics together, depending on who the session is for and how long you have.
How hair grows
The hair growth cycle, what the scalp needs, and why hair changes with age, hormones and health.
Recognising hair loss
Pattern thinning, shedding, patchy loss and a receding hairline: what each looks like, and which need prompt attention. Hair loss.
Scalp conditions
Telling dandruff, seborrhoeic dermatitis, psoriasis, eczema and folliculitis apart. Scalp conditions.
Hair and health
How iron, thyroid, hormones, stress, illness and diet show up in the hair, and when to suggest a blood test.
Salon services and the scalp
Colour and bleach, chemical damage, dye reactions, extensions and traction, for hairdressing audiences.
When and how to refer
Raising a hair or scalp concern sensitively, and when to suggest a GP, pharmacist or trichologist.
Who I teach
- Clinics and healthcare teams who want to understand hair and scalp problems in more depth.
- Colleges and training providers teaching hairdressing, barbering, beauty or health courses.
- Salons and their teams who want to give clients better advice and spot problems early.
- Professional and community groups interested in hair loss and scalp health.
Sessions aren’t a trichology qualification. If you’d like to train as a trichologist yourself, see how to become a trichologist.
Where I’ve taught
The Philip Kingsley clinic, London. I joined the clinic in 1999, trained and worked there, and ran trichology sessions.
Crawley College. I’ve taught hairdressing students how to recognise hair loss and scalp conditions, and when to suggest a trichologist. Students who understand the science give their clients better care.
I’m happy to talk to any organisation about a session that would suit its members.
How it works
1. Get in touch
Tell me about your organisation, who the session is for, and what you’d like to cover.
2. Plan it together
We agree the topics, format, length, date and fee before anything is booked.
3. The session
Practical and based on real examples, with plenty of time for questions.
4. Afterwards
Anyone worried about their own hair or scalp, or a client’s, can book a consultation with me directly.
Questions about training
If yours isn’t here, get in touch and I’ll come back to you.
Do you run regular trichology courses?
No. I run sessions when an organisation invites me, and plan each one around the group. If you want to become a trichologist, see how to become a trichologist.
How long is a session?
It depends on what you’d like to cover and the time you have. We agree it when we plan the session.
Can you come to us?
We agree where and how the session takes place when we plan it, so it suits your group.
Can people book a consultation afterwards?
Yes. Anyone can book a consultation directly, with no referral needed. Book a consultation.
